Application Engineer/Specialist

Central States Group is an industrial distributor looking to add to our applications and technical sales group at our Cedar Rapids office. Applicants with technical customer service experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants with 2-4 year degrees in math/engineering/or similar field are encouraged to apply, even if no experience is had.
 
This position focuses on industrial pump application, customer support, and inside sales. Primary responsibilities include selecting and quoting equipment and solutions to meet our customers’ requirements for new applications, and diagnosing/troubleshooting existing equipment that is already in operation. Employees in this position add value by being a technical expert for our customers and our salespeople in the field.
 
Must have mechanical aptitude and be comfortable with algebra and similar mathematics. Must have practical business experience working with Microsoft Office and have solid general computer skills. Must have strong communication skills (written and verbal), a strong work ethic, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment. For those without related experience with pumps or rotating equipment, we provide extensive on-the-job training.

Central States Group is a midwestern industrial distributor of pipes, valves, fittings, and engineered products We are looking for an energetic quick learner to process orders in a fully computerized warehouse that can also make deliveries in one of our straight trucks.

Duties in the warehouse include storing, picking, shipping and receiving of product. Must have excellent people skills (friendly, courteous, and polite) for customer contact. No special driver’s license is needed but must have a good, clean driving record and valid operator’s license. Related experience required (driving a straight truck and/or truck with trailer). Must be computer literate, able to lift up to 70 lbs, operate warehouse software and certify in forklift operation.

Post-offer, pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check required. Competitive pay, health insurance, 401k.

An Internship with Central States Group is a great opportunity for those interested in our company to gain insight into our operations, culture, professional staff, and management team. We will expose you to the following aspects of our company and industry to help provide the student with hands-on practical business experience.

Warehouse Department: with our shipping and receiving teams, learn about various vendor parts and products and the logistic challenges that surround meeting the customer orders.

Sales Department: learn about inside sales – work with customers in a professional environment with our PVF (Pipe, Valve and Fitting) and Process Controls departments.

Operations: experience ISO standards in real-life scenarios while managing inventory and processes for efficiency. Accounting: work with our accounts receivable and payable departments to get a complete business circle with how customers pay and how we pay vendors.

The internship is paid on an hourly basis; however, Central States Group is not responsible for costs incurred during relocation for the internship or for housing expenses incurred during the duration of the internship program.
